The 5 Best Neck Stretches

neck pain pic.png

There are literally a million different stretches you COULD do for your neck.  There are also millions of You-tube videos of ‘experts’ who have the one stretch that will change your life overnight and fix all your problems.

Let’s boil down all the hype into some practical techniques you can start using today.

There are two major ‘rules of thumb’ when it comes to neck stretches.

#1 - Don’t make it worse

#2 - Only perform a stretch to accomplish a certain goal.

Neck pain, as well as most musculoskeletal injuries or conditions come in three distinct types.  These three types are; mild, moderate, and severe.

At home stretching and self management should be used exclusively for those cases in the Mild to Moderate severity group.  Anytime a condition moves into the Moderate to Severe category, this is typically the time you want professional help.

Assuming you can do the following techniques without additional pain or other problems, here they are…

Oh yeah, one last thing…

None of these are actually stretches at all.  These are more of ‘at home techniques’ that I have found over the years to be the most beneficial for people and more importantly, they are gentle and effective and don’t make people worse.

A couple of additional notes:

This ‘top 5’ list was compiled from experience of treating hundreds of people with neck pain over the last two decades.  These are techniques that I have found that people can perform safely and effectively without the risk of making their neck pain worse.

Feel free to ask your doctor before you try any of these and realize that these techniques are not meant as a diagnosis or specific treatment.

"After 5 treatments, the

pain was totally gone.”

- J. McAndrew

“My shoulder pain was so bad I didn’t sleep at night, even with pain pills.  I then had shots and that didn’t help either.  I wasn't’ sure about it, but gave it a try and I’m so glad I did.  My pain is totally gone after just a few treatments.”
